SYMIC: Guided by Obas Playlist Analysis

A ton of you didn’t know, but I love to just type up nonsense about some good ole “Shifting Your Music Into a Career” especially when you are in the 10th INSTALLMENT of THE PLAYLIST! I put the playlist in bold because, uh duh, we are going to talk about the significant of Guided by Obas playlist and its somewhat impact on the indie-stry as we call it. I am going to use exactly one chapter from the Shifting Your Music Into A Career…. WHERE ARE THOSE PLAYLISTS! This is one of the backbones to an artist’s career when we are talking about how can an artist increase their Spotify or Apple Music streams. So, let’s talk about and be about it.
WHERE ARE THOSE PLAYLISTS discusses about how to properly pitch to a playlist and where you can find these playlists to pitch. It starts with the identification of the track and it ends with sending out press whether its free or paid to increase those streams. It is very important we discuss this because playlists have become the new radio where an emerging artist is discovered and their reach increases. We need to take every playlist a little bit serious because you honestly don’t know who is listening or who is tuning in. That is why it is crucial we identify the playlist before we pitch. So what does this have to do with the Guided by Obas Playlist?!
The playlist is used to bridge the gap between emerging and mainstream artists. In addition, it puts you in an OBAS state of mind. For example, the 9th installment was based on singer-songwriters. I was feeling like listening to emerging artists who are singer-songwriters. I created a playlist around the emerging singer-songwriter genre. Now!!! You as an artist was suppose to see that and IDENTIFY that playlist. After you’ve identified it, you pitch to Obas and say, “Hey, I see that you just curated a singer-songwriter playlist. I am a singer-songwriter. Could you add my song on your playlist?!” My response, “Sure no problem, make sure to follow the playlist and will definitely do that.” or “ Sure, there’s a fee of X amount.” (I don’t do the second part, but applicable to other playlist curators) When you do this, you are increasing your chances of exposure to a new audience, but it doesn’t mean you are making the big $$$$ as you think. Again, if we want to write a guide for these playlists then, it would be: identification—-Pitch—-Exposure if we want to keep it simple.
Now, we go into our 10th installment of the playlist. This one is curated by you, the fans. Let’s make sure we are helping these emerging artist by actually practicing the concepts of SYMIC. Go listen to this installment of Guided by Obas and if you haven’t bought the book, I think you should. Make purchase here and have a great one.
